The Government of India is working on an ambitious project to install 1,00,000 solar pumps all over India through State Nodal Agencies and NABARD to support irrigation & drinking water pumping system. Farmers will be provided with 30% capital subsidy through State Nodal Agencies & 40% subsidy with mandatory loans from NABARD for solar pump installations to aid their irrigation efforts. Further, the state may also come up with more subsidy through its own funds. The ministry had earlier this year shelled out INR 353.50 crores for this ambitious project, of which 63,436 pumps were sanctioned to various states through State Nodal Agencies & 30,000 pumps through NABARD. So far the ministry has empanelled 53 solar powered pump systems through NABARD and is providing training for all its operations and utilization.
